Dear Mr. Hjermstad:

This will acknowledge receipt of your letter dated August
12. 1988. requesting a renewal of Weather Modification Permit
No. 85-1 (copy enclosed). which permit is for operations
intended to augment natural precipitation in the drainages west
of Vail Pass in the vicinity of the Vail and Beaver Creek ski
areas. This permit was granted on November 1. 1984, for the
period November I, 1984. through March 31. 1985. by the
Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Natural
Resources.

It was twice renewed by the Executive Director for the
periods November 1. 1985. through March 31. 1986. and February
14 through April 19. 1987. It was renewed a third time for the
period November 1. 1987. through March 31. 1988. by me acting
on behalf of the Executive Director. Your request for another
renewal of this permit is again being acted upon by me pursuant
to the delegation of authority which the Executive Director of
the Department of Natural Resources has made to me to perform
his duties and powers in carrying out the provisions of the
Weather Modification Act of 1972 (Article 20 ~f Title 36.
CRS) .

Pursuant to Section 36-20-114(2), CRS. I am hereby granting
the renewal of Weather Modification Permit No. 85-1 for the
period of November 1. 1988. through March 31. 1989. inclusive.
This renewal. which shall be denominated Permit Renewal No.
89-1, is subject to the "Terms and Conditions" of Permit No.
85-1. the requirements of the Weather Modification Rules and
RegUlations dated August 1. 1986. and the requirements of
Article 20 of Title 36. CRS. In granting this renewal. I have
reviewed and hereby approve of this project's past operational
record and I do hereby waive the procedures for initial
issuance of a permit. which waiver is authorized by Section
36-20-114(2), CRS.
