CRDSS
TASK MEMORANDUM 2.03-03
Quality Assurance/Quality Control Procedures for the CRDSS Spatial Database
1.0 ISSUE
The CRDSS Spatial Database consists of geo-referenced data the CRDSS user can display graphically in
the Visual Data Browser Utility and query some of the data stored in the CRDSS Informix Database. The
CRDSS Spatial Database contains Geographic Information System (GIS) capabilities and spatial data in
Arc/Info and GRASS formats.
This task memorandum will describe the data population (QA/QC) Quality Assurance/Quality Control
procedures used to populate the CRDSS Spatial Database as describe in Task Memorandum 2.03-01
Database Content and Capabilities.
2.0 DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
The procedure used for CRDSS to population the spatial database for the modeling efforts includes the
conversion of Arc/Info coverages to GRASS. There is a percentage of error that is incurred during this
process primarily because of the conversion of linear based data to a raster or grid based system.
This task memorandum describes the error in terms of a percentage for the conversion of some of the
main coverages from Arc/Info to GRASS. The statistics for the Arc/Info coverages are extracted using
Info queries. The GRASS statistics were produced using the GRASS command r.report using the best
resolution associated with the individual coverage.
Page 1
01/03/97 2.03-03 - Lange
