CRDSS
TASK MEMORANDUM 1.10-1
Station Database
Station Database Year 1 Summary
1.0 ISSUE
The purpose of this task memorandum is to document the station database task activities performed
during Year 1.
2.0 DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
The primary focus of the database effort was to create a populated station database to support the
historical database and to provide tables for data that do not fit well elsewhere. During Phase I, the
database design was formulated, and construction of the database began. Beginning in Phase IIa, the
database design was refined, and database construction and population continued. Character-based
displays were built using the INFORMIX tools as a prototyping tool, debugging tool, and a tool to verify
database contents.
The progress on the station database task will be summarized by first briefly discussing the work
products specified in the scope of work.
1.A station database which satisfies the CRDSS requirements for the Gunnison River basin and
the other five basins.
Table 1 summarizes the station database population to date. The primary purpose of this database task
was to ensure that alternate identifiers and station comments, where available, were populated into the
database. Note that these data are linked to the data types and identifiers that are part of the historical
database. These identifiers include the and These identifiers make it possible to
geoloc_num wd.
query the database and find, for example, all of the gaging stations in a water district. The
is the identifier that was used to query the relational database from the visual data
geoloc_num
browser.
All station header information was digitally available when the data for the historical database were
populated into the station database. However, header information was not available for the flow stations.
2.A simple GUI to enable the user to easily display and modify the station data.
The data entry screen in Figure 1 allows the station database to be updated and viewed. These screens
are part of the CRDSS form-based database displays. Note that the individual designated to update the
database must have the correct database permissions. There is a recommendation to add a subtask to the
Phase IIb scope to update the database if additional digital information becomes available.
User input on the displays was solicited near the end of the phase. The station remarks were not added to
the streamflow displays in time to be demonstrated as part of that activity. However, based on comments
received (additional discussion on displays is provided in Task Memorandum 1.08-2), the time series
1
A275 01.09.95 1.08-10 Greer
