CRDSS
TASK MEMORANDUM 1.05-17
Study of System Integration Issues
GUI - Network Display
1.0 ISSUE
The main function of a network display tool is to represent a conceptual model for a physical system.
The network of nodes and arcs displayed on the screen can then be used to interface the data for the
network, e.g., physical characteristics, priorities. A network display tool is useful when creating and
editing networks for the water rights planning model, but may not be used by end-users. Such a tool
will also be useful in other modeling efforts in later years, such as the Big River model or the water
rights administration tool.
2.0 DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
A general network display tool is one that can read a "network" consisting of nodes and links and
display the network in a useful fashion. It is anticipated that the physical aspects of networks will be
generalized so that they can be stored in the CRDSS database (either in INFORMIX or as flat files).
Future task memoranda from the water rights modeling task will address this issue. The network
tool will read such a network from the database and allow the network to be displayed and edited.
Figure 1 illustrates the basic components of such a tool. The tool will have display control options
(upper right corner in figure) and editing features that would allow the network to be easily modified.
If GIS overlays are desirable in this tool, then the features of the network editor may be added to the
display tool (see Task Memorandum 1.05-16). In any case, routines developed for the general
display tool may be useful for the network tool.
Options
Demand1 Physical
Demand2 Schematic
Convergence1
Palette
Res3
Res1 Reservoir
Diversion
Loss
Res2 Import
Arc
2
Figure 1.
