CRDSS
TASK MEMORANDUM 1.14-11
Consumptive Use Model
?cuclimat? Data Management Interface - Returns Consumptive Use Model
Input Files for Climate Data
1.0 ISSUE
The consumptive use (CU) model requires several formatted input files. At the highest level, a user
chooses to run the CU model using a specified area and time period. The area, represented by one or
more spatial identifiers, and the time period are passed on to several data management interface (DMI)
utilities, each of which supplies one or more of the required input files.
This DMI generates two formatted climate-data files required by the evapotranspiration and non-evapo-
transpiration components of the CU model. The files generated are formatted based on the methods used
in the CU model. Files having ?.wbc? as a suffix contain data formatted for Blaney-Criddle. Files
having ?.wpm? as a suffix contain data formatted for Penman-Monteith and/or Blaney-Criddle.
2.0 DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
The IDS Group is responsible for creating this routine; however data are retrieved from the CRDSS data-
base by a low-level DMI provided by RTi. The low-level DMI directly queries the database and returns
required data to the calling routine. The input and output formats for the low-level DMI will be defined
based on the direct effects they have on the construction and generalization of the DMI for other uses.
The general function of this DMI is to return formatted climate data for the specified time period and
from every available weather station in the specified area.
Some of the required inputs for the CU model call for monthly aggregations. These aggregations will be
handled within the database.
cuclimat DMI Inputs
The DMI is passed the name of a control file defining the area and time parameters selected by the user.
This file is read by the DMI as it builds the low-level DMI input data structure. The data structure will
be defined by RTi. Control files have ?.ctl? as a suffix. The file format is attached.
Area and Time Parameters
A number of spatial identifiers describing the specified area
?
ologic unit,
A string defining the unit of the spatial identifier list (county, water district, hydr
?
and river basin)
1
A275 01.09.95 1.14-11 CSU IDS
