Tauer
Mayor, City of Aurora
15151 East Alameda Parkway, Fifth Floor
Aurora, CO 80012

Connnumty: Ci~ofAurora,CO
Connnumty No.: 080002
Panels Affected: 0040 E and 0160 E

~~~:~~i~~~ of APR 2 4 2003
102-D-A
Dear Mayor Tauer:
This responds to a request that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) revise the effective
Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report for your connnunity in
accordance with Part 65 of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) regulations. In a letter dated
January 30,2003, P.E., Water Resources Engineer, Matrix Design Group, Inc., requested
that FEMA revise the FIRM and FIS report to show the effects of the Westerly Creek Channel
Restoration-Phase 1 along Westerly Creek from the confluence with Sand Creek to just downstream of
Montview Boulevard. This request follows up on a Conditional Letter of Map Revision issued on
January 14, 2003.
All data required to complete our review of this request were submitted with letters from Mr. Nickolas E.
Skifalides, P.E., Depu~ Manager, Wastewater Management Division, Department of Public Works, City
and County of Denver; Mr. Peter D. Binney, P.E., Director of Utilities, City of Aurora; and
We have completed our review of the submitted data and the flood data shown on the effective FIRM and
in the effective FIS report. We have revised the FIRM and FIS report to modify the elevations, floodplain
andfloodwayboundary delineations, and zone designations of the flood having a I-percent chance of
being equaled or exceeded in any given year (base flood) along Westerly Creek through your connnumty
from approximately 2,600 feet downstream (at the corporate boundary with the City and Coun~ of
Denver) to just downstream of Montview Boulevard. As a result of the modifications, the Base Flood
Elevations (BFEs) for Westerly Creek and the width of the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA), the area
that would be inundated by the base flood, decreased, and the width of the regulatory floodway increased
in some areas and decreased in other areas. The modifications are shown on the enclosed annotated copies
of FIRM Panels 0040 E and 0160 E, Profile Panels 32P and 33P, and affected portions of the Floodway
Data Table. This Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) hereby revises the above-referenced panels of the
effective FIRM dated August 16, 1995, and the affected portions of the FIS report dated September 7,
1998.
Because this revision request also affects the City and Coun~ of Denver, a separate LOMR for that
connnum~ was issued on the same date as this LOMR.
The modifications are effective as of the date shown above. The map panels as listed above and as
modified by this letter will be used for all flood insurance policies and renewals issued for your
connnum~.
