<br />OTERO DITCH COMPANY <br />ARKANSAS RIVER DIVERSION STRUCTURE REHABILITATION <br /> <br /> <br />Looking upstream along the Arkansas River across the new concrete diversion wall. <br /> <br />Project Description <br /> <br />The Otero Ditch Company diverts water directly from the Arkansas River <br />approximately I mile northwest of the Town of Fowler. The existing diversion structure and <br />right abutment were washed out during flooding in April and May of 1999. This $620,000 <br />project involved stabilizing 2000 I.f. of streambank, the construction of a l82-ft. long concrete <br />diversion wall, 3-ft. high with a ll-ft. wide concrete stilling basin, and the construction of a <br />new concrete outlet control structure with a 20-ft wide by 8-ft. high opening. The Natural <br />Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), who is additionally funding 75 % of the total <br />construction cost, designed the project.
