As the CDSS effort matures, the analysis that can now be done with the CDSS modeling tools has
increased. With that increase analysis functionality, there has been an increase in the need to support more
modeling requests. The Water Supply Protection Section is giving direct modeling support for the Colorado
River and San Juan River RIP's, ISF issues, SWSI and in the future the additional support associated with the
Interbasin Compact Basin Roundtables (ICBRT) under HB-ttn. It is envisioned that this fund will be used for
a general CDSS support contract, where CWCB staff could quickly go to the selected CDSS support contractor
to help fill in the support that staff cannot meet. For FY 07-08, an appropriation of $200,000 is being sought
from the Construction Fund.

Discussion

The CDSS modeling tools and database has matured, making the need for such tools more in demand. As such,
the Water Information Group at times cannot meet the support needs related to the use of these tools. The water
resource issues on the San Juan and Colorado, along with potential analysis needs in the oil shale regions, make
it essential that CDSS modeling support be available when needed. Having a CDSS modeling support
contractor available during times that the Water Information Group are backlogged will give the CWCB more
resources to exert for a particular water resource issue that may come up.

Recommendation

.
