,. .

REPORT TO SOUTH PLATTE RIVER STEERING COMMITTEE
ON ADDITIONAL SITE SELECTION STUDIES

NARROWS vs WELD COUNTY

September 13, 1963

Since the last meeting of the steering committee, the Bureau of
Reclamation has investigated four different items pertaining to the
Narrows-Weld County site selection problem.

First - Providing service to Riverside by three different
alternates, all having pumps:

(a) New Riverside Canal with pumping of supplemental
water from Jackson Lake

(b) Jackson Lake pump
(c) Narrows pump

Second - Providing a pump to deliver water te the North Sterling
ditch, diverting from the South Platte River immediately
below the town of Sterling.

Third Providing service to the Bijou Canal by an exchange
using Empire Reservoir for temporary storage.

Fourth - Drilling the Weld County site and an alternate site 1.4
miles downstream from the Weld County site on a
location proposed by Mr. Osborne.

The first, second and fourth of these items were requested by the
Colorado Water Conservation Board. The third was a short study under-
taken by us to further evaluate the exchange potential to the Bijou
Canal.

I will report on these in the order given, but first I would like to
call attention to the salient points of our February site selection
presentation. These are shown on Table 2.

See 'l'a ble 2

<.
Most of us have recognized, I think, that the Riverside Canal could
be served by pumping, but the exact manner of providing thi" service
and the cost" were not developed until now. In studying this
appurtenant feature, we considered various alternates and made cost
. studies on three. The one having the most merit appears to be the
