Poudre Wi ld & Sceni c Ri ver .y

Alternative Formulation
3/5/81

The 10 Team restructured the segmentation of the Poudre to facilitate study
of the river in light of Congressional action in P.L. 96-560L' This legis-
lation created several new wildernesses in the river basin and adjusted the
boundaries between USFS and RMNP lands.

In reviewing the alternatives presented in the DEIS/SR, the 10 Team found
that several minor changes would be desirable in light of the new river
segmentation and favored the addition of one totally new alternative to
more clearly evaluate contributions to the NED Objective.

The following identifies each of the alternatives, the recommended level of
river designation, and a forecast of management direction anticipated
through the study period.

Alternative A:

Environmental Quality alternative; non-structural alternative; most
closely rese~b1es the "citizen's alternative" identified during the
DEIS/SR comment period.

Segments 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7 are recommended for designation as
"recreational river"'; Segments 5, 6, and 8 are recommended for
designation as "wild river." (Change from DEIS/SR: Segment 8 recom-
mendation as wild.)

Management Direction: (W) Preserve and/or enhance essentially primitive condition
(R) Protect outstandingly remarkable values

1.
