", j :.: r;~ <br />l".Ot~SE;'~'/i\Tj::)t;,J 8Gi\RD <br /> <br />.. ,~ ... <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />MONTHLY PROGRESS REPORT <br />SAN LUlS VALLEY PROJECT, COLORADO <br />REGION 5 <br /> <br />Rio Grande Division <br /> <br />Field and office work pertaining to land classification <br />was continued during the month with no time being lost due to <br />climatic conditions. Two land classifiers were transferred to the <br />Area office, Oklahoma City, as field York neared completion, <br /> <br />Exploratory drilling of the Coller Dam Site was completed <br />during the month under Specifications R5-2b(A) by the Jones Core <br />Drilling Co., Dallas, Texas. A saving of $2850 was made ~der this <br />contrBct, actual drilling being less than estimated. <br /> <br />Soil and water samples from areas under consideration <br />were sent to Regional Salinity Laboratory, Riverside, California, <br />for analysis. Analyses are being made as the Le~oratory's part in <br />the program of investigation of the possibility of recl~mation of <br />black a,llmli lands. <br /> <br />E. W. Rowland, Asst. Regional Hydrologist visited the <br />project office to review the progress of water supply studies. <br />A conference will be held during the early part of November to dis- <br />cuss the studies with the Chief, Division of Hydrology, Branch of <br />Project Planning, Denver, Colorado. <br /> <br />Closed Basin Division <br /> <br />Observation of ground water fluctuations were continued <br />during the month by Geological Survey personnel. <br /> <br />Conejos Division - Platoro Unit <br /> <br />i' <br />I <br /> <br />Contractors for construction of Platoro Dam; clearing of <br />the reservoir: and construction of the gatetender's house, have all <br />made excellent progress during the month. Completion of the gate- <br />tender's house is expected during the first week in November. <br /> <br />A meeting is scheduled for October 27 with the Attorney <br />and Consulting Engineer for the Conejos Water Conserva~y District <br />to diseuss progress made by the District in securing IIconsent agree- <br />ments." This meeting will be attended by the Project Engineer and <br />members of the Regional Director's staff. <br /> <br />General <br /> <br />Excellent weather prevailed during October.
