Native land cover types within the Rio Grande DSS effective ground water model area and irrigated parcels indentified within Division 3 are described. Purpose: Spatial integration of Rio Grande DSS for evapotranspiration and consumptive use consideration related to land cover. Attribute_Accuracy: Attribute_Accuracy_Report: Landsat satellite images from 3 dates during the 1998 growing season were geo-referenced to UTM Zone 13, NAD27. Training sites for irrigated crop types were developed using the Agro Engineering 1998 client database. Training sites for non irrigated crop types were delineated using limited ground-truthing using real-time corrected GPS and previous land cover studies. A maximum probability supervised classification was used to create a raster image describing the most probable land cover types. The raster image was smoothed twice with a 3x3 matrix focal majority filter. This smoothed image was vectorized to describe non-irrigated land cover types. Irrigated parcels were digitized separately using IRS 5m images and crop types were determined from evaluation of four sources: 1) the supervised classification results, 2) Agro Engineering's 1998 client database, 3) Rio Grande Water Conservation District's (RGWCD) crop database, and 4) limited field verification. Crop type agreed at least 92% with RGWCD crop type. Irrigated and non-irrigated vectors were merged on a vector scale to retain resolution. Logical_Consistency_Report: Landsat satellite images from 3 dates during the 1998 growing season were geo-referenced to UTM Zone 13, NAD27. Training sites for irrigated crop types were developed using the Agro Engineering 1998 client database. Training sites for non irrigated crop types were delineated using limited groun-truthing using real-time corrected GPS and previous land cover studies. Heavy, medium, and sparse native vegetation types were delineated considering percent vegetative cover rather than plant communities. A maximum probability supervised classification was used to create a raster image describing the most probable land cover types. The raster image was cut to an area 500m outside of the Rio Grande DSS effective ground water model area to allow for any inaccuracies in the boundary. The term "effective" refers to the ground water model area countained within the model boundary layer cells. The raster image was smoothed twice with a 3x3 matrix focal majority filter. This smoothed mage was vectorized to describe non-irrigated land cover types. Irrigated parcels within Division 3 were digitized separately using IRS 5m images and crop types were determined from an evaluation of four sources: 1) the supervised classification results, 2) Agro Engineering's 1998 client database, 3) Rio Grande Water Conservation District's (RGWCD) crop database, and 4) limited field verification. Vectors from the supervised classification were overlaid by the irrigated parcel vectors. Irrigated crop types identified in the supervised classification not overlain by irrigated parcels were reclassified to heavy vegetation in areas not subject to sub-irrigation and non-irrigated meadow nearer to river areas. All vectors were cut to county, huc, and groundwater model area boundaries provided by other contractors.
