TASK NO: 12

Botanical Resources Studies

SUBTASK NO: 12b

Species of Special Concern Documentation

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this subtask is to identify and verify any state or
Federal threatened or endangered plant species which may occur in
the project area.

APPROACH:

A two-step approach will be used to document the species of special
concern on the project area:

I) Identification. -- A list of the state and federal threatened
or endangered species expected or known to occur in the
project area has been obtained from the Colorado Natural Areas
Program. This list includes known locations in the project
area of some species. Information from the literature and
consultation with species experts will be used to identify
likely locations of the other species on the list.

2) Verification. -- To verify the presence of species of special
concern, known or expected locations within the project area
will be visited to verify presence. If the species are found,
their identity will be confirmed by the herbarium at either
Colorado State University or the University of Colorado. Data
on population, distribution and habitat characteristics for
any species of special concern verified in the project area

6168a

12-5
