TASK NO: 11

Aquatic Resources Studies

SUBTASK NO: Ilh

Mitigation Measures

PURPOSE:

Subtask llh activities will provide insight into mitigation
measures which may be necessary for stream resource effects.

APPROACH:

Mitigation may be required for stream resources lost to
inundation. Mitigation for stream resources lost to inundation in
the main stem impoundment area will be determined through comparison
of HQI units pre- and with-project. Agency guidelines on
mitigation to adjust for losses in stream and gains in lake
resources will be obtained. Typically, net stream resource losses
are mitigated through purchases of stream access easements
elsewhere, or through such measures as fish hatchery development.
Mitigation for any net losses in stream habitat, if they occur, are
usually sought through changes in the project-related streamflow
regime. Cost and scheduling aspects of mitigation measures will be
addressed.

OUTPUT:

Preliminary mitigation proposals and their associated cost and
schedule implications will be provided as a chapter in the Task 11
report.

6162a

11-18
