.e

.'

Part 4 - Reservoir Data (Contd)

During the construction of the dam and the following period of

operation of John Martin Reservoir. the U. S. District Engineer Office

conducted tests and oompiled information concerning the amounts of silt

in suspension in the waters of the Arkansas River at and above Caddoa.

These data were analyzed and arranged to indicate relations between

suspended silt and monthly streamflow volumes, and were supplemented to

include sediments transported as bed-loads by major floods. From these

data Table 16 was prepared, to indicate the quantities of sediment tha~

probably would have deposited in the reservoir, assuming the dam was

completed and the reservoir was operated beginning October 1, 1907 and

.

ending September 30. 1942.

,.

Fro~ these monthly sedimentation data Table 17 was prepared.

showing the quantities of sediment estimated to have accumulated in the

oonservation (or irrigation) pool below Elevaticn 3851, from whioh (and

the initial capacity Table 15) Table 18 was prepared, showing the effective

storage capacities of the conservation pool during each month of the 1908.

1942 study periodJ and Table 19 was prepared fihowiag the surface areas and

effeotive storage capacities at the end of the study period, These estimated

sedimentation quantities and calculated storage capacities may be summarized

as follows:

JOHN MART1N RESERVOIR
Conservation Flood Combined
Pool Pool Totals

...

H.
