Perhaps they'are unaware of' the

fact that the agricultural industry of Colorado produces a gross income

of almost twice that of the state of Arizona on an average annual

basis. While there may be some in Colorado who wish to sell our birth-

right to Arizona and California, I am convinced that the majority of

our people do not share this perverted desire. I have no quarrel with

either the Central Arizona project or the use of Colorado River water

in the Imperial and Coachella Valleys of California. But I have

considerable quarrel with misguided citizens of the state of ColoradO

who would sell this state down the river. My admonition to them is --

Weep not for Arizona and California, for those states will take care

of themselves.

The Dolores project is unique among Colorado reclamation

projects in that a common pressure sprinkler system will be installed

for the newly irrigated areas. This system will greatly conserve

water and will reduce the erosion of soils. It is a system which

already has been successfully installed on the Navajo Indian reserva-

tion immediately south of the Dolores project area. This system will
permit the.dryland farmers to diversify their crops in an area now
exclusively devoted to wheat and pinto beans. The Dolores project
area has one of the longest growing seasons of ,any area in Colorado. Its

-5-
