PURPOSE.- In 1948 the Albuquerque District, Corps of Engineers, <br />furnished the Bureau of ReclamatIon an estimate of flood control benefits <br />and evaluation of flood control operations and storage for Pueblo Dam <br />and Reservoir. Results of the analysis were preserited in the Bureau's <br />report Initial Development, GW111ison-Al'kansac Project, ROaT,ing Fork <br />Divel'sion, Colorado, dated January 1950, The project, now knOlm as the <br />Fryingpan-Arkansas Project, was authoriz.ed by P,L, 87-590, In correspond- <br />e"ce elated 12 "pr11 1963 to the Corps, the llurcau stateel that revie\\' of <br />'the ~\bo\fc-l..l~s(:l'ib(2d \'.\atel'ial 1,'i'0ul...!. be. SCOPE.- The' major east slope features of the Fryingpan-Arkansas <br />Project incluele Sugar Loaf Oam (Turquoise Lake), Elbert canal and for~bay; <br />T"in Lakes Dam; O'tero Canal; Clear Creck Reservoir; Pueblo Dam and Res- <br />ervoir; and the Arkansas Valley ~funicip31 pipelinc, All of the features <br />~ _ _ _ _ _ _ excep!_ ~u~12..1~Dam ill!.<l Bes~vol1:_ an~ _tll~ll):J,!lJlsaJ;ElL~y-~hlJlicipal _pipe~ <br />line "ould be constructed above Canon City "hich is the upstream limit <br />of the Arkansas River Basin susceptible ~o significant mainstem flooding. <br />Therefore, the flood control effect of these features, regardless of <br />their size, would be negligible, The Pueblo Dam and Reservoir "ill con- <br />trol about one-third of the Arkansas River Basin above Las Animas and <br />"ill ha'le major flood control effects.
