Type of Action <br /> <br />2. Brief DescriPtion of Action <br /> <br />The project entails construction of Narrows Dam and Reservoir to store and <br />regulate flows in the South Platte River, and to provide irrigation, flood <br />control, recreation, fish and wildlife enhancement, and municipal and indus- <br />trial needs. Construction of the dam and appurtenant facilities in Morgan <br />County will take nearly 7 years. The counties of Sedgwick, Adams, Weld, <br />Logan, Morgan, and Washington will be serviced with project water. <br /> <br />3. Summary of Environmental Impact and Adverse Environmental Effects <br /> <br />a. The project will provide a supplemental water supply on 166,370 acres of <br />land in the Lower South Platte Water Conservancy District and on 120,700 <br />acres of l~nd in the Central Colorado Water Conservancy District. It will <br />provide downstream protection from floods, enhance fish and wildlife <br />resources, offer recreational opportunities, and stimulate the local <br />economy. <br /> <br />b. Approximately 15.5 miles of natural stream and 15,000 acres of agriculture <br />and wildlife lands would be regularly inundated by the reservoir, trees <br />and vegetation in the reservoir will be lost, and approximately 220 families <br />within the project site would be displaced. A total of about 825 people will <br />be relocated. <br /> <br />c. Construction activities would cause temporary scarring, turbidity, destruction, <br />and alteration of the existing landscape and cause short-term air, water, and <br />sound problems-. <br /> <br />4.
