Ruch, and a new headquarters of- <br />fice in Flagstaff, Arizona. Mr. Ruch <br />will direct die activities of die head- <br />quarters office, <br /> <br />fun has IlD1l dllII twenty years <br />of leadership experience in land and <br />resource management in the West: he <br />has served as California State Direcror <br />of the U,S, Bureau of Land Manage- <br />ment, as Direcrorofthe Colorado Divi- <br />sion of Wildlife, as Special Assi8l8nt to <br />the Assistant Secretary of the Interior <br />for Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, and the <br />Direcror of Special Conservation Proj- <br />ects for the state of Colorado, Mr. <br />Ruch 's otheraa:ompUshments include <br />being twice hllllOml as the Laird Nor- <br />ton Distinguished Visiror at die Uni- <br />versity of California, Berkeley, <br /> <br />We are delighted to welcome <br />him to the Grand Canyon Trust and <br />know that he will make a significant <br />contribution to the preservation and <br />wise management of natura1 resources <br />in the Colorado Plateau, <br /> <br />The Colorado Plateau head- <br />quarters offICe in Flagstaff will de- <br />velop and implement die Grand Can- <br />yon TrU!lt's lXlIllleI'Y8tic programs. The <br />offICe will conduct research and pre- <br />pare recommendations on natural re- <br />source issues in the Colorado Plateau <br />including: airarIft managemtIIt in Grand <br />('.anyon National Park, public land ex- <br />changes, the pIlIeCtion of riparian wikt- <br />life habil8lS, management of the Colo- <br />rado River and hydropower operations <br />at Glen Canyon Dam, mining and <br />mineral development, wilderness pro- <br />posals, the proteCtion of archaeologi- <br /> <br />cal resources, and the development of <br />recreation, <br /> <br />Mr, Ruch and his staff will <br />also develop a community conserva- <br />tion program, so that communities and <br />local organizations have a voice in <br />federal and Slate agency plans that di- <br />recdy affect their jobs and environs. In <br />addition, the Grand Canyon Trust is <br />designing a fish and wildlife habitat <br />protection project and a program to <br />mODiror and evaluate the condition of <br />natura1 resources in the Colorado Pla- <br />teau, <br /> <br />We are deeply grateful to the <br />Raben T.
