002055

.

.

QUARTERLY PROGRESS REPORT
to
THE PACIFIC SOUTHWEST INTER-AGENCY COMMITTEE
from
THE STATE OF COLORADO

September, October, November - 1957

Late in September, the Colorado Water Conservation Board
placed the Juniper Project high on the priority list of Partici-
pating Projects to be constructed in Colorado as a part of the
Upper Colorado River Storage and Participating Projects authorized
by Congress. The present plans for the Juniper Project envision a
reservoir on the Yampa River with a capacity of 850,000 acre feet
to serve about 33,000 acres of land in Colorado and over 68,000
acres in Utah. It is possible that the plans may be revised to
include power production as one of the major project purposes.

The Water Conservation Board also took action in October
to make available a sum of $35,000 to the Bureau of Reclamation to
accelerate the completion of a feasibility report on the Curecanti
Project. The Curecanti Project plans are for several dams on the
Gunnison River, tributary to the Colorado River, for production of
hydro-electric power as a part of the Upper Colorado River Storage
Project.

Work has been substantially completed on an aerial photo-
graphy and topographic mapping contract covering an area of 42,000
acres as part of the lands to be served by the proposed West Divide
Project on tributaries of the Colorado River in the vicinity of
Rifle, Colorado. This work is being financed by the State of Colo-
rado to facilitate the report on the project by the Bureau of Recla-
mation.

The State Board of Agriculture, at a meeting early in
September, approved for planning under the Small Watershed Protec-
tion Projects, the application on the Blue River Project, a tribu-
tary to the Colorado River, and the 4 mile-3 mile Creeks Project;
tributaries to the Roaring Fork which in turn is tributary to the
Colorado River near Glenwood Springs. The administrator for the
S.C.S. in Washington approved the latter for detailed planning.

~

k
