<br />Location.--water-stage recorder-, lat 37004142", long 105045'22", in sec. 22, T. 33 N., R. 11 E., on
<br />right bank just downstream from highway bridge, 6 miles north of Colorado-New Mexico State line,
<br />10 miles east of Lobatos, and 14 miles east of Antonito. Datum of gage is 7,427.63 ft above
<br />mean sea level, datum 1929.
<br />
<br />Drainaqe area.--7,700 sq mi, approximately (includes 2,940 sq mi in closed basin in San Luis
<br />valley) .
<br />Averaqe djSCharge.--31 years 11900-301. 846 ft3/s (598,400 acre-ft per year), 57 years 11931-87)
<br />458 ft /s (331,800 acre-ft per year).
<br />Extremes.--1899-1987: Maximum discharge observed, 13j200 ft3/s June 8, 1905, (gage height,
<br />9.1 ft), from rating curve extended above 8,000 ft Is; no flow at times in 1950-51, 1956.

<br />Remarks.--Records good except. those for winter months, which are fair. Natural flo\l of stream
<br />affected by transmountain diversions, storage reservoirs, ground-water withdrawals and
<br />diversions for irrigation, and return flow from irrigated areas.

<br />bank 200 ft downstream from bridge, 0.2 mile downstream from Iron Spring Creek, 3.3 miles west
<br />of LoS Ojos, and at mile 9.7. Datum of gage is 7,196.29 ft above mean sea level. prior to
<br />Apr. 1, 1971, at site 900 ft downstream.

<br />Drainaqe area.--112 sq mi.
<br />Average discharge.--7 years (1963-69), 11:5 ~t3/s (8,330 acre-ft per year) prior to completion of
<br />Azotea tunnel; 18 years (1970-87), 143 ft /s (103,600 acre-ft per year) subsequent to completion
<br />of Azotea tunnel.
<br />Extremes.--1962-87: Maximum discharge, 1,610 ft3js Mar. 12, 1985 (gage height, 6.65 ft); no flow
<br />at tlmes prior to 1971.
