INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />A preliminary field study for the purpose of determining the <br /> <br />potential recreational values of the Blue desa, GatevieOl, Cebolla, <br /> <br /> <br />Taylor Park, Almont and Curecanti Reservoir sites was made during the <br /> <br /> <br />week of Gctober 20, 1947. Because of the location of these sites in re- <br /> <br />lation to each other, to main highways, to the terrain, and because of <br /> <br />other physical characters, the,y have been considered to form a related <br /> <br />group and are treated as such in this portion of the report. <br /> <br />The Gunnison-Arkansas rroject Office of the Bureau of Recla- <br /> <br />matiDn, Pueblo, Colorado, was contacted prior to the field study. A <br /> <br />representative of the Fish and Wildlife Service, Region Two, Albuquerque, <br /> <br />New Mexico, accompanied the National Park Service representative on the <br /> <br />field study. <br /> <br />II. If these dams are constructed and the project is p~t <br />into operation, the flow of the Gunnison River through the Black Can- <br />yon of the Gunnison National Monument will be affected. 'Dbe National <br /> <br />Park Service has vital interest in any diversion or regulation of the <br /> <br />river abDve the monument. <br /> <br />This monument, embracing the deepest, most rugged and <br />spectacular 10-mile section of the 50-mile gorge of the Gunnison River, . <br /> <br />19 <br />
