II. The units of the Gunnison-Arkansas t'roject located 'lest of the

Complete details pertaining to the archeological reSOllrces

of seven proposed reservoirs inclllded in the Gllnnison-Arkansas ~ro-

ject cannot be presented until field recor~aissance has been co~leted

by the MllSellll1 Df J\rcheology of the "estern State College of Colorado

at GllnOison. The area to be covered is large and work is impossible

during a greater part of the year becallse of the high altitude and

the fact that snON lies longer there.

The seven j)roposed reservoirs involved in the ~resent study

are: Sugarloaf and rain Lakes on the uwer hrkansas ttiver east of the

Continental Divide; Cottonwood (now called lJlue Hesa), on the Gunnison
River; Cimarron (now called Cllrecanti), on the Gunnison and Cimarron

Rivers; Gateview on the Lake Fork of the Gwnnison; Cebolla, on

Cebolla Creek, a tributary of the Gunnison; Almont on Taylor River, a

stream which joins the Bast River and below their confluence becomes

the Gunnison; Taylor on Taylor iUver, upstream from Almont.

Nothing is known abollt the area involved in the Sllgarloaf

and Twin Lakes basins. No stlldies have been made there by any of the

:iestern State College staff, and until there has been opportunity for

a reconnaissance no statements can be made as to the presence or

absence of archeological manifestations.
