>,

SETTING

Location

Virgin Valley Subevaluation Unit is in Lincoln and Clark counties
in Nevada, Mohave County in Arizona, and Washington County in Utah (see
Figure 1). This wit is about 75 miles long in a north-south direction
and has an area of 2,030 square miles. The area is served by Interstate
Highway 15 which parallels Virgin River in Nevada and Arizona. U.S.
Highway 91 is also within the study area. Moat services are available
in Mesquite, Nevada, and St. George, Utah.

Durina planning, Virgin Valley was determined to be a contributing
area of salts to Colorado River and was selected for study. A tributary,
Beaver Dam Wash, was not studied in detail. Streamflaw measurements
shaw minor salt contribution from Upper Beaver Dam Wash, where a treat-
ment program Would not significantly reduce salinity.

Figure 2 shaws land ownership within Virgin Valley Sub evaluation
Unit. USDA study objectives are for improvements on privately owned
lands only. Figure 3 shaws Virgin Valley privately ,owned irrigated area.
Environmental impacts other than those related to dawnstream water quality
and quantity will occur within the vicinity shown by this map. Such
impacts include increaaed surface water flow, diaturbance of wildWe
habitat due to additional agricultural activity. etc.

t

_ADA Ill'WI
I

L 1 nco 1 n Couftt,
Clark County

LESENlI

505
lII11es

c:::::::J Public 0atII1n (managed by IUl)
~ State and Other Fedlra!
_ Private
"-" H)'drologic Boundary

Sell.

II

_ Il~hinlton County
Hnhave County

.

1ll.IIz-
. .

II .........
.
