<br />~'j <br />N <br />~ <br />N <br />c <br />c <br /> <br /> <br />So the river, which once had managed to <br />clean itself, found itself again heavily <br />polluted. <br /> <br />Unfortunately, the burden that the Grand <br />Valley places on the river cannot simply be <br />forgotten. The salt and sewage that is added <br />to the river here is spread on the fields of <br />farmers downstream - in the Imperial Valley <br />of California and the fields of northern <br />Mexicali. And it ends up in the drinking water <br />of Los Angeles and San Diego. Grand <br />Valley has a responsibility to downstream <br />users, just as upstream users have a <br />responsibility to Grand Valley. We must <br />reduce the burden we place on the river - <br />and we can. <br /> <br /> <br />7 <br />
