November 10. Chief Engineer Weymouth submitt~d.' a.
final report to Board of Directors on preliminary surveys,
designs, and estimates and recommended the Parker route
for the Colorado River aqueduct.
December 19. Engineering board of review consisting of
A. J. Wiley, R. R. Lyman, and Thaddeus Merriman reported
to Board of Directors approving the Parker route.

1931 Februar.v. The cities of Long Beach, Torrance, and Fuller-
ton annexed to the District.
March. Contract for construction of a dam and power
house in Black Canyon awarded by Secretary of Interior to
Six Companies, Inc.
May. Supreme Court dismissed bill of complaint in suit
brought by Arizona against Secretary of Interior and signa-
tories to the Six-State Compact.
June. The City of Compton annexed to the District.
August. The cities of Colton and San Bernardino with-
drew from the District.
September 29. A construction bond issue of $220,000,000
was approved by Distriet electors by a 4.85 to 1 vote.

1!l32 February. The Board of Directors appointed F. E. '^"'~.,
mouth general manager and chief engineer of the District. .
June. Congress granted to the District a right of way over
public lands.
November. Supreme Court of District of Columbia dis-
missed suit to enjoin Reconstruction Finance Corporation
Irom lending money to the District for construction 01 Colo-
rado River aqueduct.
December. First block of bonds sold to RFC.

1933 January. First excavation on aqueduct construction at
Fargo adit and on Thousand Palms section of the Coachella
tunnels by District forccs.
February. Contract executed between the District and
United States for construction and operation of Parker dam.

1D34 August. Contract for construction of Parker dam awarded
to Six Companies, Inc. by Secretary of Interior.
October. Contract awarded b~' District for first open work
along the main aqueduct.
November. Governor of Arizona declared Parker dam con-
stmction area in Arizona to be under martialla\\'. Construc-
tion work ordered suspended by Secretary of Interior.
