<br />3tH.] <br /> <br />FOREWORD <br /> <br />_-5 <br /> <br />Work completed during the year consisted of the Garvey-Ascot <br />cross-feeder and the portion of the middle feeder between Victoria . <br />Street and 228rd Street. The northerly half of the second barr~(..'';';' <br />uf the San Diego Aqueduct was completed in March 1954 and the <br />work un the entire pipeline was completed in October 1954. At <br />the end of the year the work on the Gat'vey Reservoir and on the <br />Cajalco tunnel \".as nearing completion. work was in progress on <br />the pipeline contracts on the middle feeder between the Garvey <br />Reservoir and Victoria Street. Work had just been started on the <br />pipeline contracts between the Cajalco tunnel and the west side of <br />the City of Corona on the lower feeder, and on the San Juan tunnel, <br />and on the West Orange County feeder. <br /> <br />Equipment for the pumping plants' expansion program was ap- <br />proximately 90 percent fabricated on June 30, and the contract for <br />the installation of the equipment will be awarded in August 1954, <br /> <br />Area, population nncl assessed 'val-ua.tion <br /> <br />The continuing dry spell together with the rapidly shrinking <br />underground water supply and the increasing population and in- <br />dustry have greatly increased the activity to annex to the District. <br />During the fiscal year just ended the area adjacent to Lake Mathews <br />annexed to the Eastern Municipal Water District; City of Haw- <br />thorne and thc La Casa area annexed to the West Basin Munici- <br />pal Water District; and the Rainbow, Poway, Bueno Colorado, <br />Rincon del Diablo and Carlsbad Municipal Water Districts an- <br />nexed to the San Diego Couuty Water Authority. On June 30. the <br />District had increased 388 square miles in area. the population had <br />increased 652.000 and the assessed valuation had increased $582,- <br />600,000. The area and population of the constituent areas of the <br />District are shown on Table 2. Table 3 shows the population and <br />percent of growth by decades and for the current year for the <br />District and for the coastal area of the five counties in which the <br />District is located. <br />
