Further <br />transportation facilities are available through the Yuma International Airport. in <br />L'olljullction with thc Marine Corps Air Station, where the largest civiliun and military <br />aircraft can be accommodated. <br />BA. Utilities <br />Electric ellergy is provided in the project area by private. oublic. Federal, alld <br />non-Federal sources operating in the southwestern United States. The supply is geaeruted <br />by nuclear. thermoelectric. and hydroelectric units. but fossil-fuel generation is <br />predominant. At present, the supply of electric energy is low, due primarily to delays <br />ill construction caused by environmental considerations alld difficulties in securing <br />fossil-fuel supplies. Low-efficiency combustioll turbine generating capacity has been <br />installed to meet the area load and reserve requirements. Combined cycle. conventional <br />fossil ruel. and nuclear powerplants are being installed or are in the planning stage. <br />Natural gas supplies are criticul anu new customers are not being accepted by <br />Arizolla Public Service Company. The Yucca Powerplant normally used natural gas but <br />its allocation was terminated and oil is being used in its pluce. <br />Water requirements in the are" are provided either by Colorado River diversions <br />or private wells. The City of Yuma has some private wells. and two contructs with the <br />Bureau or Reclamation for over 50,000 "cre-feet per year of Colorauo River water to <br />be delivered through structures of the irrigation projects. The city's present treatment <br />pbnt capacity is 15 Mgal/d and average consumption is 11.5 Mgal/d.
