Plant <br />jndalJ.ath.n <br /> <br />The Southern California Edison Company telemetering instal- <br />lation for Units A-5, A-6, and A-7 including transmission facilities <br />from the Hayfield tie line was completed and placed in operation <br />in November 1950. This system allows for greater flexibility of op- <br />eration and centralized control as requested by the Edison Company, <br /> <br />Some $390,000 were spent for improvements in Boulder City, <br />This includes $105,000 on the new Junior-Senior High School build- <br />ing and athletic field; $86, 000 for improving and expanding the water <br />and electric distribution systems; $54,000 for extension of streets, <br />sidewalks and sewers principally for accommodating a new private <br />housing development; $28, 000 for completing work on 16 new houses <br />and making improvements to and equipment in project oWned houses; <br />$23,000 for a cooling system in the Municipal building; and the <br />remainder on miscellaneous lesser items. <br /> <br />The principal item of property retired was the emergency <br />aerial transfer bus between generating units A-2 and N-7, origi- <br />nally installed at a cost of $77,000 as a war-time emergency, no <br />longer required, Transportation equipment, including a cruiser <br />type boat, accounted for $35, 000 of retirements; and other retire- <br />ments amounted to $47,000 for service equipment, such as office <br />furniture, tools, shop and work equipment, air conditioning and <br />sprinkler systems, residential and miscellaneous equipment. <br /> <br />Construction on the three additional generating units was well <br />under way at the close of the year and should be in production as <br />scheduled unless the tightening supply situation of critical materials <br />seriously retards the program, These units will complete the instal- <br />lations designed for the Arizona wing of the powerhouse. A single <br />contract for work relating to the .field installation of all three units <br />was awarded to the Elliott and Gist Construction Co. This included <br />concrete foundation work in the powerhouse, installation of turbines, <br />and scroll cases and all control equipment for the units. The reloca- <br />tion of existing transformer banks, additional transformer circuits <br />and construction ci additional switchyard facilities were also included <br />in this contract.
