Max.

Herewith is my report on the potential Hammond project in
the San Juan River Basin in northwestern New Mexico. It is a supple-
ment to the compt'ehensive report, entitled Colorado River Storage Pro-
ject ~ Partioi:pating Projects, dated September 1950. -

The Hallllllond project is one of a group of develo:pments des-
cribed and designated as participating pt'ojects in the report of the
Regional Director on the Colorado River Storage project and participa-
ting projects, and is recommended in that report for authorization.
The attached report pt'ovides information on the Ha!lllllond project in
greater detail than does the comprehensive plan report.

The plan described in the report includes an inde:pendent
diversion of water from the San Juan River for project lands. Another
potential diversion 15 miles farther upstream with a high canal pass-
ing above Ha!lllllond project lands is being investigated as a means of
providing water to the South San Juan pt'oject and to the Shiprock (In-
dian) project. If oonstruction of this higher canal is authorized, the
desirability of designing it to supply Hammond pt'oject lands also should
be investigated.

.7'
'/-
u' ,

?

.'

, /1/~ ~- 2"2--/
/\. .f!"'/~ .
