I'

r...
c'?
~
N
c'

~:-;.\

':;,

Secondary sewage effluent Is piped from the AWT plant to the Harry Allen sIte
through a pipeline approxImately 25 miles In length. Water demand for average
and peak load conditions ranges from approxImately 9,000 (14,500 acre-
feet/year) to 12,000 gpm (19,400 acre-feet/year), dependIng on the water
treatment process option.

;,

LOWER VIRGIN RIVER UNIT

:f

The Lower Virgin River Unit Is a saline water source under study by the Bureau
of Reclamation as part of the Colorado River Water Quality Improvement
Program. This unit area Is located along the VirgIn River between Littlefield
Springs, Arizona and Lake Mead In Nevada. The unit water supply plan Includes
groundwater from well fields drilled by the Bureau of Reclamation In the river
flood plain, plus surface water from the Lower Virgin River which contributes
to recharge of the well field.

Water quality data for the Lower Virgin River UnIt for the period of 1979
through 1985 were supplied by the Bureau of Reclamation. Water quality for
the Lower Virgin River Unit was characterized from these data assumIng 60%
ground water and 40% surface water. These results are shown In Table 3-2.
SupportIng analytIcal data are shown In AppendIx B-2.

<i

Lower Virgin River water would be pumped to the plant site by a pipeline or a
pipeline and tunnel system. Three pipeline routes and one pipeline and tunnel
route are under study by the Bureau of Reclamation. The distances for these
alternatives vary from approxImately 42 to 50 miles.

Plant demand for the LVR water supply also varies from approximately 9,000 gpm
to 12,000 gpm, dependIng on the selected water treatment process option.

"
"

,
"

.~,
"
~

TABLE 3-2
:~,
LOWER VIRGIN RIVER RAW WATER QUALITY ',<,
(mg/I as Ion) ::i
"
~:
Ion GW GW SW SW Blend Blend ,
~.l.'
Avg HI Avg Avg HI Avg Avg HI Avg ~:~
.>:
..
Na 340 516 278 366 316 457 "
p~'
Ca 312 437 255 318 289 389 ,
Mg 132 184 90 112 115 155
HC03 235 307 263 333 246 317
CI 433 664 345 431 398 571 ..
S04 1208 1711 872 1124 1074 1476 "',
t-ll3 0.5 1
P04 0.5 1
SI02 26 33 19 21 23 28 3
..
TOS 2686 3852 2122 2705 2462 3395
.'.:-.
GW: Groundwater "
SW: Surface Water ".:':
3-2

"
(i
;~.
f.~t
