<br />A'.reappraisal of classification proeedures 'in pro~e,ssing mineral land
<br />withdrawals has been undertaken by the Washington staff. The commodities
<br />involved are oil shale, coal, phosphate, potash, and,80dium deposits. On
<br />the fie,ldlevel a program will be initiated to prOVide the necessary ill-
<br />fonnation to effect at'inal classification of these lands. '

<br />Oil and Gas Leasing

<br />In cooperation "lith the Departrnent of Justice'~ Office of Alien Pi-operty,
<br />an arrangemellt was arrived at whereby thl1l Oil and Gas Leasing Branch
<br />supervises field operations and does the royalty accounting On an aliell
<br />property lease.

<br />The Survey cqoperated with the Federal' Public Housing Admnistra tion
<br />by giving assistance and advice in cOMection with proposed oil and gas
<br />leases involving low-rent housing projects located in the City of Los
<br />Angeles.

<br />Some of the gas fields in our regio,n commenced delivering gas to the
<br />Pac Hie NO,rthwest pipe line whiCh was receritly Iaid from the four corners
<br />area to' the Pac:\,fic Northwest states~ ' " ,

<br />..vall was completed OIl October 6, 1956, with an initial product;!.on of 1170
<br />'h/d of 27.40 gravity oil frOm perforations ,at 9535 feet to 9721 feet. This

<br />portion of the, San Joaquin Valley. '

<br />A new discovery of oil was made byNeavesPetrol,eum Development Company
<br />in its well "Neaves-Union-Lane" 2, ill the NWtsEtSectioll 17. T. 7S., R. 4 w.,
<br />M. D. ~. & M;., La Honda, Area, SanMllteo County, California. The well was
<br />completed about October 24, 1950 with aninitisl production of 75 bid of
<br />350 gravity oil from the in terval 1727 fee t to 1741 fee t. This discovery
<br />keeps interest alive in this new producing area.
