<br />002210 <br /> <br />WHO MAY APPLY FOR GRANTS? <br /> <br />Application for Q Federal constrvction grant may ~ made <br />by ...y municipality which hal authority to conltruct, main.. <br />tain, and operate a sewage treatment works. A municipality <br />i I defined in the Act to mean any city, town, borough, <br />county, parish, district, or other public body created by or <br />pursuant to State law and having jurisdiction over disposal <br />of sewage, industrial wastes, or other wastel. <br /> <br />WHAT COSTS ARE ELIGIBLE? <br /> <br />The construction cosh that are eligible for Federal grant <br />ossi stance are: <br /> <br />1. Those incurred In constructing new sewage treatment <br />works or additions to or extensions, alterations, ac- <br />quisitions, improvements or remodeling of already <br />existing treatment works. <br /> <br />2. Those for neces.ory Intercepting lowers, outfall. <br />sewers, pumping, power, and other equipment. <br /> <br />3. Those for preliminary planning and such other actions <br />necessary to construction of sewage treatment wone s <br />such 01 engineering, legal and fiscal investigations, <br />studies and deslgnl, including the supervision and <br />Inspection of construction. <br /> <br />WHAT COSTS ARE WOT ELIGIBLE? <br /> <br />There ore a number of COlts not allowable 01 eligible con- <br />struction costs. Principal among these are: <br /> <br />1. Any costs incurredprior to or any work under contract <br />let belore July 31, 1956, the date on which the lirst <br />appropriation for grants become available. <br /> <br />2. The cost of the site or land on which the sewage <br />treatment work s Is to be bui I t. <br /> <br />3. The costs for sewage collection systems or any part <br />thereof other thCl'1 intercepting and outfall sewen and <br />their appurtenCl'1ces. <br /> <br />4. The cost of any work not included in the project os <br />approved by the Public Health Service. <br /> <br />HOW TO APPL Y FOR A GRAN T <br /> <br />lhe construction grant .program Is being admini stered lolntly <br />by the Public Health Service and the State water pollution <br />control ag...cles.
