The description of the types of materials that will be encountered. <br />in each portion of th.e project (pp. B-1 through B'-8) is generally adequate, al- <br />though we feel that a brief. description of their engineering properties and any <br />related po;tential construction problems should also, be addres$ed in this portion <br />of the Statement. A good' example of such-a description is found in the last <br />paragraph on p. A-6. <br /> <br />Although the presence of 'several landslides in.Big Soap P;3.rk is mentioned in <br />'the text (p. ,.B:'2).. there is no rnentio.n of other landslides which may exis't <br />along the remainder of the project route. Because much of the proposed conduit <br />and 'canal will encounter the generally unstable MancO'OiShale,we feel that <br />slopes.tability is.. a major consideratioll in this project and it should be <br />specifically addressed in the Final Erivironmental.. Statement. <br /> <br />We would also like to mention that there are no references to the. source of <br />information from which the geologic 'chart and map were obtained(pp B-3 and <br />B":'4), nor ,are there' any references to geologic soure-es in the bibliography (pp <br />1-:2 through 1-4). Appropriate references sho'uld be included. in the- Final En- <br />vironmental Statement. <br /> <br />, <br />,I <br />I <br /> <br />Finally, because this is a Bureau of Reclamation project, we suspect that ex- <br />tensive geologic investigations will be conducted along the entire project . <br />route and that the results of these investigations will be given careful con- <br />sideration ,in the final alignment and design of all phases of the project. We' <br />f-eel that such a discussion should be included in section A. 6. - Project Plan. <br /> <br />We feel that i:he above reconunendati~ns will result in a more complete- analysis of <br />the geologic eleme'nt of the' 'environment, and that these reconunendations should be <br />included in, the Final Environmental Statement.
