"

which had been left there the night before. . There were ~ deer

grazing in the field.

Early in the Spring each year when the gNss firot begins to grow

.e have watched deer. come from ~he cedar hills into the fields to

eat. On different occasimns wo have counted from 30 to 150 deer

teeding in and near our fields and neighbors tields.

Also in the winter I can tes.tiC)' to their presence. One year a

tew years ago we had a largo stack Of baled haY within 25 feet ot

our driveway. We have a mercury light in our yard and olmos t aJ11

time of tar dark we could look out our window and see deer eating

on our hay stack. Ws counted trom 3 to 8. and it was a tamily

contest to soe who would see the big 4-point buck tirst each nigh..

This year trom our winter feed ground for the cattle we counted as ma~

as 26 leaving the field. or grazing in tha sa.gs brUsh and cedars nearby.

I, too, lova wildlite and I too stop each time I see deer to thrill

to the grace and-beauty ot them. We never tire ot watching them

and even a porcupine ambling across_ thef1eld will bring -the whole

tan1l;y out to see.

As you havs heard they are around our place all seasons. It -their

grazing had been destroyed they would have lett. It they had to

haVe the acreage that the project will include to live abundantly

they would be there inetead ot -in our tields and ournei&bbors

tields, as all ourneighbore can testify that they are.

The project will not destroy natUral habitat as cla1!lied by cony.

All land till not be irrigable 4s you can readily .tell by the

land classitications. Only a portion ot it and the rest_will be

lett in its natural state. The deer will continue to abound in and

around the tields as they do right here on the tarms and ranches

that have been here for the last 50 years.

rr
I
