<br />o <br />-..J <br />CO <br />to <br /> <br />1997 ANNUAL REPORT <br /> <br />This report serves as an annual advisory to the federal agencies concerning the Council's <br />determination of the progress of the salinity control program and the need for specific actions by <br />involved federal agencies. The report is brief and does not contain a full description and analysis <br />of the salinity control program. For the reader who is not familiar with the salinity control program, <br />it is suggested that you refer to either the Quality of Water, Colorado River Basin, Progress Report <br />No. 18, January 1997, or the 1996 Review, Water Quality Standards for Salinity - Colorado River <br />System Final Report, June 1996. The first report can be obtained by contacting Dave Trueman, the <br />Salinity Coordinator for the Bureau of Rec1amation, at (801) 524-3753, 125 South State Street, <br />Room 6107, Salt Lake City, UT 84138-1102. The second report can be obtained by contacting Jack <br />A. Barnett, the Executive Director for the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum, at (801) <br />292-4663,106 West 500 South, Suite 101, Bountiful, UT 84010. <br /> <br />The Council met in Tucson, Arizona, on October 22,1997. At that meeting, the Council received <br /> <br /> <br />reports from and made inquiries ofthe federal agencies involved in salinity control, and approved <br /> <br /> <br />the budget recommendations contained in this report. The Council also made time available for <br /> <br />public comment and one member ofthe public responded. The record was left open to allow written <br /> <br /> <br />comment by the public but no comments were received. This reports covers the period from January <br /> <br />I through December 31, 1997. <br /> <br />COUNCIL COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> <br />The 1996 Review, Water Quality Standards for Salinity - Colorado River System Final Report, (1996 <br />Review) June 1996, and Supplemental Report, October, 1996 prepared by the Forum describe the <br />numeric criteria for salinity, the implementation plan, the individual salinity control projects and <br />their status. The Council, while appreciating the assistance each of the federal agencies provided <br />to the Forum during the preparation of the 1996 Review, notes that the 1999 Review effort is <br />beginning as required under the Clean Water Act and the Council looks forward to assistance from <br />the federal agencies. <br /> <br />COLORADO RIVER BASIN SALINITY CONTROL ADVISORY COUNCIL <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />..
