Interested Federal and State agencies were consulted fre-

quently for exchange of data during the preparation of the report. The

Bure~u of Reclamation made extensive investigations and studies of the

irrigation aspects of plans considered for this report. The results of

these investigations by the Bureau of Reclamation are presertted in

"Irriga tion Report," appendix D to thi s report. A public hearing,

several conferences, and public meetings were held with large groups of

local interests, and with representatives of the city and county.

These meetings are discussed in the section of this report entitled

"Improvements Desired by Local Interests."

11. Prior reports. - In addition to the report described in pre-

ceding paragraphs, the Purgatoire River and its tributaries were consid-

ered under the subject hIrrigation" in the report Arkansas River and

Tributaries, published as House Document No. 308, 74th Congress, 1st
<

Session. At the time of this report, it was found that:
<

In the Pill?"toire River Easin, no material increase in
irrigated area"",. be made in Ghe uppal' basin without reservoir
development and such developm611G is precluded because of
scarcity of reservoir possibilities. . . . Most of the lower
basin is in carwon, and opportunity for further development of
irrigation is very limited.
