Included are prevention
of potential damages to agricultural land and improvements, urban
conmlunities, and other forms of property such as roads, brid3eS,
utilHies, and irrigation tTorl';s. The evaluation also included
preventable agricultural losses such as costs of production, and
the loss of crops which would result directly from flooding as
well as crop losses resulting from iL~red irrigation works.

The reach of the South Platte River covered in these studies extended
do\mstream from the sites of the potential works to a point just
balmT the junction of the North and South Platte Rivers.

Follmrtng is a summary of the annual flood control benefits:

\-,

Table 6 -- Flood Control Benefits

Narrows
Site

l<eld County
Site

f"'~'

Annual Benefits

Without Bijou Control
Bijou Control

Total with Bijou Control

$503,200
44,0001/
$54'7,200

$436,'700
4':-,000 ?J

$480 ,100

l/ Control by dikes and channel into the proposed Narrows Reservoir.
Y Control by Higeins Reservoir.

"

llater Supply Benefits

The Narrows report of 1951 contains ,lata indicating tl1at the annual
yield of water from the reservoir tUlder the interim plan of operation
(before developn'€nt of the now abandoned Blue-South Platte Project)
,,"ould be about 100,000 acre-feet at .;;he reservoir outlets. It,ethods
of benefit evaluation have changed since the studies in tha.c report
were made, including different agricultural price projections.
Hovever, the results of those studies indexed for changed prices
and other conditions indicate a tentative annual benefit value of
about $13.00 per acre-foot of water at the reservoir. Although
this figure vill be revised during the current investigations,
its use will serve for comparative purposes in this report.

14
