<br />. <br /> <br />COLORADO RIVER STORAGE PROJECT <br />PAONIA PARTICIPATING PROJECT <br /> <br />LOCATION: <br /> <br />West-central Colorado on the North Fork of the Gunnison <br />River and its tributaries. <br /> <br />AUTHORIZATION: Authorized and partially constructed under Act of June 25, <br />1947, (61 Stat. 181). Reauthorized as a partiCipating <br />project with the Colorado River Storage Project by the <br />Act of April 11, 1956, (70 Stat. 105). <br /> <br />PLAN <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Construction of the Paonia Reservoir on MUddy Creek, a tributary of <br />the North Fork of the Gunnison River, will regulate runoff for irrigiiltion <br />of lands under the Fire Mountain Canal which diverts from the river. <br />Enlargement and extension of the Fire Mountain Canal are part of ijle <br />project development. Some water from Leroux Creek, including import- <br />ations to the creek heretofore used on lands under the Fire MountaIn <br />Canal and its extension, will by exchange be transferred to lands, <br />above the canal in the project's Leroux Creek division. Improvillm\imts <br />, of existing small reservoirs on the headwaters of Leroux Creek wl.ll be <br />accomplished independently by the water users. In addition to , <br />irrigation of 2,230 acres of new land and 13,070 acres of supplemental <br />" ' <br />land, the project will provide benefits to fish and wildlife, recrea~~on, <br />and flood control.
