Eight of the streams which rise in this Wilderness are gauged by the U.S. Geological
Survey. These streams are: Willow Creek, Rock Creek, Boulder Creek, Slate Creek.
Black Creek, Otter Creek, Cataract Creek, and Main Gore Creek. Main Gore Creek is a
tributary to the Eagle River while the other stations are tributary to the Blue River.

The water yield from the west portion of the area is 2.17 acre-feet per acre. The
east portion yields approximately 1.45 acre-feet per acre. A weighted average yield from
the 87,755 acres would be about 1.70 acre-feet per acre or 149.200 acre-feet.

Forest management specifically designed to increase water yield could possibly be
applied to 12,490 acres of Engelmann spmce-subalpine fir. and lodgepole pine. This
would be done by clearcutting small blocks in the neighborhood of 10 acres each. Such
a practice might increase water yield by 0.4 acre-feet/acre annually or about 5.000
acre-feet.

There are no snow measurement courses inside the proposed boundary.

Approximately 400 acres of the Bureau of Reclamation First Form Withdnlwal of
March 15, 1946, for the Blue River-South Platte Project are inside the proposed Wilder-
ness. The proposed Wilderness boundary is located above any lands that will be affected
by this reservoir.

The above mentioned Denver Water Board plans for the Eagle River Collection Sys-
tem call for a series of tunnels from Meadow Creek outside of the west proposed boundary
to North Tenmile Creek, east of the proposed boundary. These tunnels woulo pick up
water from Meadow, East Meadow. Piney, Red Sandstone, Middle, Spraddle, Booth, Pitkin.
Bighorn, Main Gore, and Black Gore Creeks and transfer it eastward to North Tenmile
Creek. None of the stmctures, as now planned, would affect the proposed boundary.
The East Gore Range Canal, which is tentatively planned as part of this system, is
entirely outside of the proposed Wilderness, as far as can be determined at this time.
There are no other known proposals for water development within the area.

Forage

Portions of the proposed Wilderness have been grazed during the summer season by
domestic livestock since prior to 1900. The exterior boundaries of two cattle and horse
range allotments are partially within the proposed boundary. One of these allotments
has an area of 50 acres inside the proposed Wilderness that is suitable for grazing. The
other allotment does not have suitable grazing lands inside.

1349

11
