P. A. Glancy and A. S. Van Denburg (1969) relate the saline character
of the Muddy Creek formation to groundwater in the following:

"Sampled groundwater along the Virgin River shows the influence
of geologic units, particularly the Muddy Creek Iormation (Table
2), which contain soluble minerals, such as, halite (sodimm
chloride) and gypsum (calcium sulfate). Most of these waters
contain 1,000-5,000 mg/l (milligrams per liter) of dissolved
solids."

There is a scarity of data relative to the quality of groundwater in the
Muddy Creek formation in the area of this study. There are two wells (V-8
and V-26) which probably are pumping groundwater from the Muddy Creek formation.

V-26

NW/NW/29/l3S/7lE
ele. 1700 mal

cased
well

V-8

NW/SE/25/13S/70E
ele. 1560
ft. msl

cased
well

Wells V-26 and v-a are located on
south side of Virgin RiveT near
Bunkervil1e. Based on drillers logs
it appears that the perforated well
casing is in the Muddy Creek formation
with water under head moving upward
in the well casing. It 1s considered
that the upward movement of groundwater
in the Muddy Creek formation into the
more permeable alluvium results in a
mixing of these waters. This mixed
water in turn receive. water from deep
percolation during irrigation. The
potentiometric surface for Bunkerville
area shown in Figure 0-4 appears to be
in agreement with levals measured in
wells V-26 and "-8. The concept of
deep percolation water from irrigation
mixing with groundwater mix from alluvium
and underlying Muddy Creek formation is
shewn in Figure D-3.

lluvium

Muddy Creek
. formation

.
