This
loss accounts for about 0.1 percent of the 7,400 acres of all types of wetland.
The ten acres lost are adjacent to off-farm canals and onfarm ditches. Other
lacustrine habitat wetlands (Types 4, 5 and 11) and palustrine habitat wetlands
(Type 9) adversly impacted by Alternative 2 onfarm water management total ten
acres. Wetland losses are mitigated with an equivalent 40 acre-value upland
habitat gain (improvement) and improved wildlife habitat enhancement on 2,000
acres consisting of irrigated cropland, pasture land and adjacent privately
owned uplands. Enhancement of wildlife habitat on irrigated land results from
consideration of wildlife in farming operations. Cost totals $22,000 for the
recommended program.

Type I (fresh water) wetlands in the program area are estimated to total
about 20 acres. Irrigation water management of the proposed future condition
planning alternstives would not measurably influence these wetlands.

1/ Wetland types after "Circular 39, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Classifi-
cstion.

A-23

.r~4'~
\.!
