Game birds are hunted during the regular
hunting season. Limited cottontail rabbit hunting is also available.

~

The alternatives or levels of management under consideration for salinity con-
trol will not have lasting adverse effects on the recreational aspects for the area.
This is based on the slight relationship of the recreation resource use and the
salinity control program. Quantification of recreation use parameters was not
evaluated for the Virgin Valley Subevaluation Unit. Quantification of parameters
of the adjacent Moapa Valley Subevaluation Unit completed in a prior study shows no
changes for future with or without a salinity control program. No changes are anti-
cipated for this subevaluation unit.

~.;,

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has proposed development of 2,922 acres
located along the Virgin River near the Overton Wildlife Management Area. The pro-
posed unit is located in T.l5 5., R.69E. These lands were purchased under the
Federal Public Purposes and Recreation Act by the Department as an addition to the
Overton Wildlife Management Area. The Department is in the process of developing
a long range plan for the area.

The Soil Conservation Service in response to a request has provided to the
Department, soil. maps for the area. Included with the mapping were soil descript-
ions and soil survey interpretations. Development proposed includes production of
food crops and construction of a number of shallow ponds for waterfowl.

~1

1/ The rating scale is from 1 to 5: 1, unsuited; 2, poor; 3, fair or neutral;
4, good; and 5, excellent.

A-20

v'JL341
