<br /> <br />Cultural Resources <br /> <br />~:' <br /> <br /> <br />("'~\""'~'~~~-~"'--'II <br />j 4., <br /> <br />The scenic Provo River (Ufah) <br /> <br />The Upper Colorado Region's cultural <br />resources program includes all phases of <br />cultural resources management- sur- <br />veying, testing and evaluation, and miti- <br />gation. During fiscal year 1980, the Region <br />was Involved in all phases to a varying <br />degree. <br /> <br />Surveying and Evaluation <br /> <br />r <br /> <br />Survey and evaluation of cultural re- <br />sources in the region was performed <br />in-house by the archeological staff and <br />outside the Service by contract under a <br />Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA). There is <br />a BOA for the Central Utah Project area, <br />the West Slope Project area, and the <br />Four Corners Project area, Survey and <br />evaluation performed in-house. or under <br />the BOA, provides timely and efficient <br />information on cultural resources for <br />both planning and project mitigation <br />designs, <br /> <br />A <br /> <br /> <br />Mitigation Programs <br /> <br />The fieldwork on the Dallas Creek Project <br />was completed in fiscal year 1980 and <br />a final report is in preparation. Fieldwork <br />consisted of the identification and <br />evaluation of cultural resources within <br />the Ridgway Project area and the selected <br />mitigation of adverse effects of inundation <br />or construction of sites within the Old <br />Dallas Historical Archeological District. <br /> <br />Dolores Project <br /> <br />The Dolores Archeological Program, one <br />of the largest Federally funded arche- <br />ological efforts in the nation, completed <br />its third year of fieldwork in fiscal year <br />1980 and will not be completed until at <br />least 1983. The project covers an area of <br />approximately 50 square miles, In 1980, <br />negotiations were conducted for the <br />construction of the Anasazi Heritage <br />Center to house and display artifacts <br />recovered during the program. Construc- <br />tion of this facility is tentatively planned <br />for 1983, <br /> <br /> <br />Dolores archeological study. <br /> <br />19 <br />
