The scenic Provo River (Ufah)

The Upper Colorado Region's cultural
resources program includes all phases of
cultural resources management- sur-
veying, testing and evaluation, and miti-
gation. During fiscal year 1980, the Region
was Involved in all phases to a varying
degree.

Surveying and Evaluation

Survey and evaluation of cultural re-
sources in the region was performed
in-house by the archeological staff and
outside the Service by contract under a
Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA). There is
a BOA for the Central Utah Project area,
the West Slope Project area, and the
Four Corners Project area, Survey and
evaluation performed in-house. or under
the BOA, provides timely and efficient
information on cultural resources for
both planning and project mitigation
designs,

Mitigation Programs

The fieldwork on the Dallas Creek Project
was completed in fiscal year 1980 and
a final report is in preparation. Fieldwork
consisted of the identification and
evaluation of cultural resources within
the Ridgway Project area and the selected
mitigation of adverse effects of inundation
or construction of sites within the Old
Dallas Historical Archeological District.

Dolores Project

The Dolores Archeological Program, one
of the largest Federally funded arche-
ological efforts in the nation, completed
its third year of fieldwork in fiscal year
1980 and will not be completed until at
least 1983. The project covers an area of
approximately 50 square miles, In 1980,
negotiations were conducted for the
construction of the Anasazi Heritage
Center to house and display artifacts
recovered during the program. Construc-
tion of this facility is tentatively planned
for 1983,
