<br />t..Jof the Water Resources of the Arkansas Valley for the
<br />Utpast six years. This activity is being carried on by the
<br />.. U.S. Geological Survey, and iD\'olves a large number of
<br />Qti working and test wells strategically located throughout
<br />the Basin to determine: 1. Availabilitr of total \\"8t~r
<br />supply and availability "at various pain.ts in the Valley.
<br />2. Whether sufficient ground water storage exists. 3. Ef.
<br />feet on river and streams through the use of ground
<br />water storage. 4. Quality of water affected by changing
<br />management of water activities.
<br />Data gathered has been made a part of an electronic
<br />Analog Model of the Valley. and through the use of pro-
<br />ven methods, U.S.G.S. officials use electricity to simulate
<br />the flow of water. Actual formulas have been developerl
<br />through the use of this Model, which will enable \\-ater
<br />authorities in the future to identify the relationship of
<br />surface and ground water, and suggest ways of deri,'ing
<br />the maximum beneficial use from all water resources.
<br />This Study is one of the most comprehensh-e ones in
<br />the Nation, and is the only one of its kind in Colorado
<br />at this time.

<br />On July 20, 1967, the Board of Directors entered into
<br />a Contract with the Engineering Firm of Black and
<br />Veatch, of Kansas City, Missouri and Denver to de\'elop
<br />information upon which the Bureau of Reclamation and
<br />the District can formalize plans and specifications for the
<br />Proposel Valley Pipeline, This Study will provide in!or-
<br />mation on historic and projected water consumption in
<br />the valley communities, and Water Users Associations:
<br />estimate the size, alignment, and cost of the trunk line:
<br />and provide observations regarding the advantages or
<br />disadvantages of joining with the Pueblo Board of Water
<br />Works in the treatment of waler to be sold through the
<br />line, At the December 21, 1967 meeting the Board voted
<br />to approve the sale of treated water through the Pipeline.
<br />and thus eliminate the necessity for each community to
<br />stand the expense of building separate Treatment Plants.
<br />This Study should be complete by June 1968, and the
<br />Directors and Bureau of Reclamation Officials \","ill then
<br />make 8 final determination on the size of the line. the
<br />projected costs of water to customers, and other items
<br />regarding the sale of Project waler to municipalities in
<br />the lower Arkansas Valley, Meetings will then be held
<br />with city officials to obtain current estimates of future
<br />need as costs for project water delivered can be deter.

<br />ance with generally accepted auditing stand-
