Canyons is under construction, Glenwood Springs is served from the
south by Colorado Highway 82. The only access road to the north is
Colorado Highway 13 and 789 which joins Highway 6 and 1-70 at Rifle.
U.S. Highway 50 merges with Highway 6 at Grand Junction to form Highway
6 & 50 which extends west.

The Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad parallels 1-70 and the
Colorado River through the unit area and provides freight service be-
tween Denver, Colorado. and Salt Lake City. Utah. Amtrak provides pas-
senger service through the unit area, Commeretal air service in the
area is provided in Grand Junction.

The Colorado River flows approximately 100 miles southwest from its
source in the Rocky Mountains before entering the unit area at Dotsero.
Within the unit area. the major tributaries entering the river are the
Eagle River at Dotsero, the Roaring Fork River at Glenwood Sprin~s,
Plateau Creek in DeBeque Canyon, and the Gunnison River at Grand Junc-
tion, Minor tributaries include Grizzly and South Canyon Creeks just
east and west of Glenwood Springs, respectively. In Glenwood Canyon
about 7 miles east of Glenwood Springs, most of the Colorado River flow
is diverted through Shoshone Powerplant and returns about 5 miles down-
stream. Near Dotsero, thermal saline springs enter the river imme-
diately below the Eagle River confluence, In the Glenwood Springs area.

and downstream of the mouth of the Roaring Fork River.
