"~', <br />Q,:',,~, <br /> <br />\-.>.----' <br /> <br />SUMMARY SHEETS <br /> <br />Juniper project <br /> <br />LOCATION: The lower or western parts of the Yampa and White River drain- <br />age areas in Moffat and Rio Blanco Counties of northwestern <br />Colorado and Uintah County of northeastern Utah, <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />The comprehensive plan for the Juniper project includes development <br />in both Colorado and Utah, It provides for full service irrigation <br />of 100,000 acres in the two States. hydroelectric power productioll. _,' <br />recreational development, and fish and wildlife enhancement, Water <br />would be s~pplied primarily'b~ diversions from the Yampa River, Small <br />additional supplies also would be provided from return flows from <br />project lands and di~ect flow diversions from the White River, Regu- <br />lation of Yampa River flows would be provided at Juniper Reservoir <br />on the river, Power water releases would pass through a powerplant <br />at the base of Juiper Dam and irrigation-releases would be made to <br />the Deadman Bench Canal which would head at the dam about 160 feet <br />above streambed and eXtend southwest 154 miles, Water for immediate <br />irrigation needs would be distributed from Deadman Bench Canal through <br />laterals and direct turnouts to project lands and through two branch <br />canals--the Sunbeam and Pinyon Canals, Water in Deadman Bench Canal <br />in excess of immediate irrigation needs would be stored in the poten- <br />tial Artesia Reservoir at an offstream site and then distributed as <br />needed by the Artesia Canal diverting at the reservoir outlet, In <br />the lower part of the project area, the Wonsits Canal would intercept <br />and distribute return flow and the Savannah Butte Canal would distrib- <br />ute water from the White River, Basic recreational facilities would <br />be provided at Juniper and Artesia Reservoirs, and both reservoirs <br />would enhance fishery values, Minimum water releases would be made <br />continuously through Juniper powerplant to enhance the stream fishery <br />along Yampa River, The Juniper powerplant would be interconnected <br />with and become an integrated part of the Colorado River Storage proj- <br />ect power system, <br /> <br />An initial stage of the comprehensive development could readily be <br />undertaken in Colorado only, This initial development would provide <br />for irrigation, power. fish and wildlife, and recreation with irri- <br />gation limited to about 9.000 acres, The only features of the ini- <br />tial development would be Juniper Reservoir and Powerplant, the Dead- <br />man Bench Canal and its branch Sunbeam Canal~and basic recreational <br />facilities at Juniper Reservoir, In the initial development only the <br />initial 36 miles of the Deadman Bench Canal would be constructed, As <br />in the comprehensive plan. minimum base flows would be provided for <br />fish in the Yampa River below the Juniper powerplant, Juniper Reser- <br />voir would enhance both fishery and recreational values, <br />
