<br />MPfR Al RR bAI ~N DlsIR/[I <br />, ';...t NEWS RElEASE <br /> <br />FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December II, 1997 <br />CONTACT: lID - Ronald Hull, 760-339-93 SO or Patricia Brock, 760-339-9417 <br />Authority - Dennis Cushman, 619-682-4126 or Janice Collins, 619-682-4128 <br /> <br />lID and Authority release terms of landmark water conservation and transfer agreement <br /> <br />The Imperial Irrigation District (lID) and the San Diego County Water Authority (the <br /> <br />Authority) today released for public review the terms of a water transfer agreement that promises <br /> <br />to playa key role in advancing Western water policy while greatly benefiting Imperial and San <br /> <br />Diego counties. The boards of directors for both agencies have not voted to approve the <br /> <br />agreement, only to make the terms public. The boards will consider approval of the agreement in <br /> <br />February 1998. <br /> <br />"We have arrived at an-agreement that would help provide the security of a long-term <br /> <br />reliable water supply for San Diego County at a price that favorably competes with comparable <br /> <br />supplies and the price we pay the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), <br /> <br />currently our sole imported-water supplier," said Chris Frahm, chair of the Authority board of <br /> <br />directors. "Through this agreement, we are not just helping to secure our water future, but the <br /> <br />water future of Southern California, the state of California, and the Colorado River Basin states.' <br /> <br />"The agreement also provides advantages to the Imperial Valley," said Don Cox, president <br /> <br />of the lID board of directors.
