December 2003

CUl TURAll Marshes and SWfC An index 01 the number and area ot marshes ilInd SWFC habitat reliltive to its maximum potential as indexed by conditions in
RIPARIAN Habitat 1984. FreQuent disturbances (BHBFs) with regular wetting mClXlmjze this efldpoint (1 "maximum, corresponding to the
maximum potential in 1984: 0 = minimum, corresponding to no potential fIX" marsh development).
lRZ Vegetated Beach An indeK of the biomass and diversity of W!getation present on eddy sand baor deposits. The endpoint will increase with the
Area amount of sand bar area and the frequency of floods. (0 is the minimum, corresponding to 1984; 1 not defined.)
Histone Properties This endpoint could not be fully defined without discussion With triblll TWG members. In its current state, the endpoim
indexes the amount of dry sand that would be avallable for aeolian deposition at archeo(Oiical sites.
RECREATION Probability of Reports the expected percentage of commerdal and pnvate trips on which bodIly injury wilt occur or equipment damages witt
lnddent be in excess of 5500. Bodily injury includes potential infections associated with elevated water temperatures from the TCD.
Canyon Campsite This index tradu the availability of campsites relative to the 1984 condition (i.e., a SCOl'"e of 1.0 indicates the 1984 condition.
Availability A score of 0.3 (current condition) indicates 30% of the 1984 condition. The endpoints responds to sand area above 25 kds, the
frequency of floods which remove vegetation, and the daily flow ranlle which limits the availability of existinll beaches.
LFTroutUser-days The number of user-days relative to 20,000, the assumed usage of the mid 1990's (e.g., a score of 1.2 indicates 1.2 x 20,000).
This index responds to the size and abundance of rainbow trout as well ~ fishing conditions determined by dam operations.
Powell Boat Access A nag which determines whether boat ramps in lake Powell will be ilIcccssible between Memorial and Labor days. This flag is
largely determined by the overall storage level in Lake Powell. Increased releases durinlllow storage could trig8er this flag. 0
is off (no corKern); 1 is on (potentiaL corKern).
POWER I WAPA Power Cost Reports the avenllle annuaL cost of a management option relative to ROD operations (i.e., options with net savings relatIve to
FlttANCIAl ROD are reported as negative numbers). These are the costs to WAPA: they do not reflect distribution of costs to WAPA
(average annual cost customers, nor do they include costs to LaxpilIyers. Costs of BHBF releases are based on an assumed frequency of 1 in 5 yrs.
in million S/yr)
Other Costs Reports the le\'elized annual cost of non-power options such as TCD and other works. These are costs tha[ are covered by
(leveliZed annual cost appropriation and are Incurred by taxpayers rather than WAPA.
in mULion 5/yr)
WILDliFE Peregrine Falcon An index of aQuatic pl"odUctM[y In the mainstem that ultimately detennines the abundance of prey (mostly ducks) for
peregr1ne filllcons. ThIS index applies to the river upstream of the lCR. The index is primarily driven by water transparency
which limits autotrophic production. (A score of 1; best, cQl"responding to current conditions where 5eVenll hundred pairs can
be supported, and 0 Is worst cOlTesponding [0 insuffident aQuatic productivity to support peregrlne falcons)

,~
rv
",'
u
~

5
GCDAMP 1M.TA;
December 200) Workshop Report
