,: "1Ifo.'"

ljlJ\j~\

A PAM injection pump was installed on the Paul Frank center pivot system and PAM will be
applied through the pivot. The effect ofP AM on water penetration will be observed on the two
areas comparing sprinkler application with water application through drag hoses. Yield and
quality will also be compared under the two methods of water application.

Two surge valves were installed at the John Allen farm on alfalfa to demonstrate a more effective
method of applying irrigation water. The alfalfa is on a very sandy soil with a very high
in:fiItration rate and is very difficult to irrigate. Surge irrigation may be combined with PAM to
able in increase advance rates if erosion takes place.

Twenty five (25) observation wells were also drilled on the Donnie Hammit furm to do testing for
hydraulic conductivity for subsurfuce drainage as well as on the Fletcher, Frank, and Thompson
furms. Each of these wells will be used to observe the effect of the different BMPs at the different
demonstration sites.
